about Iris
The Berlin based artist Iris Schieferstein initially studied sculpture in Kassel and later in Berlin at the Kunsthochschule Weißensee, where she also obtained her diploma. At the outset of her studies in 1990, she began using deceased animals as raw material for her artworks – assembling individual fragments to create new creatures and thereby brings them back to life. Sometimes her arrangements are reminiscent of the great works of deceased masters, often reflecting her personal liberation from social constraints. Themes such as sexuality and emancipation play a significant role in her work, simultaneously offering a new perspective on death andmortality through her creations. Her artworks have been exhibited in over 80 galleries and shows in more than 50 cities worldwide, including London, Paris, and New York.
